Avery F. Von Blon Jr. born in Waco on September 15, 1918, passed away in Hilliard, Ohio on Saturday, December 29, 2018 where he lived the past eight years. He was born to Avery F Von Blon Sr and Lena Pauline (Jank) Von Blon. His parents moved to Waco in the summer of 1916 to open a book store. He grew up in the book store. When not attending school at Dean Highland, West Jr. High and Waco High where he graduated from in 1937, he learned the book business. With the struggles of the depression, the family moved to San Antonio. During the war he worked at Brooksfield. After the war he worked for Cotton Belt Railroad and the MKT. He returned to Waco after short stay in Smithville, Tx working for the Katy. He married Helen Anast in 1952. They lived in South Waco where they raised two sons James Paul and Avery Peter. When railroads were scarce he worked several machinist jobs in the Waco area. In the early 1960s he opened a book store on south 8th. The Interstate 35 corridor took that property. In 1965 he moved to Muskogee OK to work a Katy job. He returned to Waco in 1971 to open a book store at 11th and Colcord. These were his happiest years and maintained the store until the early 1990s. Besides the book store he enjoyed the Central Texas Genealogy Society and First Lutheran Church. Over the years he acquired many mementos of Waco history. He is survived by both sons.
