Betty Lou Wood passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Regent Care of Woodway. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, at Bellmead Funeral Home, 809 La Clede. Chaplain Tim Rudolph will be officiating. Visitation with family will follow the memorial service.
Betty was born November 23, 1939 in Thaxton, Mississippi to the late Luther and Roberta Gray. She graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1957 where she was a very active member of the 4-H Club for girls in which she won numerous awards and ribbons on both County and State competitions. She was also a member of Student Council, Spanish Club and the Library Club. Betty was crowned Orange Festival Beauty Queen on March 1, 1958. She enjoyed raising her four children along with being a homemaker where she designed clothing for both herself and her children. She was a talented seamstress, artist, and wonderful friend to all who met her. Her sense of humor, love of life, and inspiring spirit affected everyone she touched and will be dearly missed. In her later years of life she especially enjoyed playing bingo and dominos with her friends at Regent Care. She truly believed in making people laugh and smile and her caring heart will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Zettler and husband, Darrell of Waco and Tammy Wood Bates of Utah; her sons, Timothy Wood and wife, Robin of Sanford, Fl and Waylon Wood of Asheville, NC; her brother, Ron "Jr." Gray and wife, Gail of Leesburg, FL; her grandchildren, David, Sarah, Jonathan and wife, Jamie, Timothy and wife, Sara, Rebecca, Coral, Brenden and Brian; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jay and Audrey.
The family would like to thank the entire staff and nurses at Regent Care of Woodway and Interim Hospice Care for their dedicated and loving care.
