Betty Kyeula Horton Redman, 72, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, in San Antonio , Texas , at VITAS Hospice Care after a long illness. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at Bellmead Funeral Home, 809 La Clede Street , Bellmead, TX 76705. Burial will be later at Arlington National Cemetery . She was born Nov. 21, 1937, to Beatrice and Melvin "Chief" Horton in Kilgore , Texas . She was a 1955 graduate of Longview High School . She married Ronald Arley Redman on Nov. 29, 1959 in Del Rio , and they had children: Patricia, Sandra and John. As a U.S. Air Force family, she and her family traveled the world moving from post to post. She earned her bachelor's degree in history at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1987, graduating summa cum laude. She devoted her life to the happiness and well-being of others. She loved gardening, mysteries, writing, traveling, and entertaining. Her last job was at Friends For Life in Waco , where she worked tirelessly as a patient advocate. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Her smile continued to brighten a room even through the tragedy and disease that eventually took her sweet soul to heaven. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1991; her parents; her brother, Gorman Horton of Longview ; and her sisters, Zonna Horton Hunt of Austin and Naomi Horton Hughes of Waco . She is survived by daughter Sandi Redman and her husband, Todd Lapham, of Leesburg , Va. ; son, John Redman and his wife, Shelley, of Cibolo , Texas ; daughter Patti Redman of Michigan ; nephew, Gary Horton of Longview ; and niece Dianna Hunt and her husband, Evan Moore, and son, Evan Moore IV, of Aledo , Texas . She also leaves behind her adopted family from the Hughes clan: Brenda and Glenn Hughes and their children and grandchild, and many more.
