Bettye L. Fawcett, age 80 of Waco passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Ken James and Rev. Josh Vaughan officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m Monday, September 21 at the funeral home. Bettye was born December 4, 1934 in Bay City, Texas, the daughter of Herbert M. and Elise (Shaw) Fawcett. She recieved her Bachelors in Library Science from Texas Womens University in Denton. Bettye married Maurice Fawcett August 16, 1957. She was the librarian at Connally High School for 27 years, retiring in 1997. She was a mentor at Brook Ave. Elementary School and at the Christian Womens Job Corps. Bettye taught Sunday School many years at Bellmead First Baptist Church and was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Baylor Senior Choir. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Maurice Fawcett of Waco; daughters, Diana Fawcett Lee and husband, Ralph of Waco and Elizabeth Fawcett Carson and husband, Chris of Lorena; son, Maurice Gene Fawcett, Jr. and wife, Leanne of Chandler, Arizona; brother, DeVoy Shaw and wife, Jean of Boling, Texas; grandchildren, David Lee, Sara Lee, Chelsea Fawcett, Lauren Fawcett Jonstun, Grace Fawcett, Joshua Carson and Jacob Carson; great grandchildren, Payton Jonstun and Jamison Jonstun.
