Cameron Eugene Garland, 17, of Axtell received his wings, January 2, 2013. Services will be 2:30 pm Sunday January 6, 2013 at Heart of Texas Cowboy Church on Kendall Lane with Pastor Jeromy Connell officiating. Burial will be at Billington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Saturday Jan. 5 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Cam was born August 28, 1995 to Tammie and Bubba Garland and was a senior at Axtell High School. On August 21, 2012, Cameron was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and hospitalized that day for treatment. Within the 1st month of treatment, Cam was in remission. During his battle, Cam suffered from Fungal pneumonia and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. His death was caused by complications from the pseudomonas. Cameron's battle was fought with the strength of a warrior. He could always be found with a smile and music playing loud. His time in the hospital was spent enjoying his many electronic gadgets and listening to his music. He could also be found pranking his child life specialist or spraying silly string with his sweet friend, Faith. Cameron made sure he remained a part of the Axtell High community by being skyped to pep rallies and football games as well as listening to the Longhorns playoff games on supercentex.com. The highlight of his journey was surprising everyone with a visit home for Senior Night. Cameron is survived his parents, father, Bubba Garland and girlfriend Krystal Baugh of Ross; mother, Tammie Garland and fianc�, David Schulze of Malone; his best friends and biggest fans, his brother, Andrew Chapman, and sister Kennedy Garland and newborn brother Mason, who shares Cam's middle name; paternal grandparents, Pam and Darrell Roberts of Lacy Lakeview, Carolyn Ellison of Mt. Calm, great grandmother, Ruth Simons of Lacy Lakeview, and Linda Garland of Lacy Lakeview; aunts and uncles, Amanda and Archie Hatten of Waco, Kristi and Russ Stewart of Floresville, D.J. Roberts and Tammy Martinez of Waco, Jerry and Nikki Ellison of Mt. Calm and Trisha Zettler of Hubbard; cousins, Archie IV, Micah and Ali Hatten, Amber Toten, Kelly Spill, Joseph Stoecker, Alana Martinez, Braylen Roberts, Haley and Jake Ellison, Ty Graves, Alexis and Kenly Zettler; numerous other loving Aunts, Uncles and cousins, his mawmaw Allene Graves, His pawpaw Redgie Graves and enough extra very loving mommas for 10 families. Cameron was preceded in death by his great grandfathers, Howard Simons and Ed Kleibrink; great grandmother, Evelyn Kleibrink; and great, great grandmother, Helen Kimbro. The one thing Cam could always count on during this journey was his weekly visits from his very best friend, Jessilyn Armstrong. They made many wonderful memories together including silly string fights, marker wars, and making Christmas ornaments together. Their's was a love everyone should have the opportunity to experience. Pallbearers will be Brandon Trent, Jordan Millsaps, Jeff Armstrong, Jonathan Smart, Chris Stephens, and Eric Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers will be the coaches and varsity football team of Axtell High School. Special thanks to the communities of Riesel, Mart and Mt. Calm for their continued support of Cam and family. Also to Cam's Dr. and N.P. Anish Ray and Rebecca Smith and the rest of the H.O. Staff at Cook Childrens. To the 5 North Tower nurses and care parenters, Cam loved you all. And now to the child life specialist of Janis, Trina, Amy, Kate and Shannon you all will forever hold a special place in our hearts. You all realized how wonderful Cam was and treated him as such. You made his days bearable and we will he eternally indebted to you. To the doctors and staff on the PICU of Cooks, you all allowed our precious hazel eyed baby boy to keep his dignity. You allowed us to be with him so he was never alone. We will never forget your kindness and the awesome way you cared for him.
