Carrol Lee Deaton Tate, age 77, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at Providence Health Center. A funeral will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Mr. Nathan Doss officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 30th at the funeral home.
Carrol was born August 28, 1938 in Port Arthur, Texas the daughter of Cordie and Flossie (Wilson) Deaton. She married W. R. Tate in Waco and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2013.
Carrol loved to cook and prepared a good meal for her family most everyday. Her home was a haven for anyone and everyone. If you had no where to go, nothing to eat, or just needed someone to talk to, Mamma Tate's was the place to be. She also loved to fish, play bingo, go shopping with her sister, the get away trips to Las Vegas with W.R., and anything Elvis ever sang.
For over 40 years she worked in the labs of Morrow Avenue Clinic, The Children's Clinic and the Pediatric Pavilion at Hillcrest. She loved caring for children.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maxie Marie Deaton; brothers, Cordie Deaton, Jr. and H. C. Deaton, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Terri Doss and husband, Benny, son, W. R. "Bubba" Tate, Jr. and wife, Maggie and sister and best friend, Lorene Jewell; sister-in-law Bobbie Murphy all of Waco; grandchildren, Hanna Doss, Nathan Doss, Ashley Taylor and husband, Travis, Cassie Wilson and Justin Jones; great grandchildren, Caison Wilson and Hadley Taylor; nephews, Thomas Jewell, Joe D. Jewell, Frank Jewell, Don Deaton and Blain Murphy; nieces, Sheri Deaton and Brinda Fields; and her beloved dog, Chico.
Pall bearers will include, Bubba Doss, Scotti Doss, Brian Palmer, Cody Woodrum, Curtis Tye, Eric Pinyerd, Jamie Carlile and Kaleb Pedigo. Honorary pall bearers are Thomas Jewell, Joe D. Jewell, Frank Jewell, Roy Lee Kneupper, Gerome Carter, Steve Harris, Rockey Lemley, John Lambert, Paul Phillips, Byron Dixon, Jay Gains, Jamie Powell and David Johnson. All of these men, and many more, were at one time one of Mamma Tate's boys. And her girls, to name a few, Deborah Holder, Vicki Solis, Catina (Jones) Newton, Connie Gilmore, Pam (Kemp) Shaw, Wende Kay and Michael Gean Anthony were special to her heart. There were many more who passed through her home, each with their own special memory of Mamma Tate.
