Charles L. Smith, 63, of Waco, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 29, at a local nursing home. Services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, February 2, at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Todd Lovett officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 1 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Charles was born February 13, 1948 in Waco, to C.W. "Blackie" and Mary Katherine (Shotwell) Smith. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1966 and served in the Marine Corp from 1967 to 1969. Charles saw combat in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart for his bravery. He married his high school sweetheart Linda Hanson, on November 22, 1969 and retired from Texas Power and Light Co. in 2003 after 34 years of service. After retirement he owned and operated Hewitt Gun and Pawn Shop. He was a life time member of the N.R.A. and Cen-Tex Rifle and Pistol Club and a member of the Baylor Masonic Lodge #1235. Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed watching races at HOT Speedway. Survivors include his wife, Linda; son Michael and wife Michelle; daughter Ashley Dokey and husband Kris; grandchildren, Matthew and Makayla Smith; brother, Ricky Smith; sister, Charlane Thompson and husband Pat; and several nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Larry Bumpers, Rick Davidson, Brian Wilson, Keith Green, T.J. Green and Kevin Green.
