Chris Neil Damants, 88, of Lacy Lakeview, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Services will be 11 am Saturday, June 14, at the Elm Mott United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrell Phillips officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 pm Friday, June 13, at Bellmead Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memphis, Tennessee. Chris served in the Navy during World War II and retired from the Naval Reserve after 38 years as a Master Chief. He also retired from the Civil Service in Memphis, Tennessee as an Aviation Electrician. Chris was a member of Elm Mott United Methodist Church, T. A. S. A., Young at Heart and Sul Ross Dance Club. Chris was a "true southern gentleman". He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; son, Chris Ray; grandson, Christopher; 3 sisters, Mary, Christine and Liz; and brother in law, T. O. Sedar. He is survived by his loving and devoted girlfriend of 24 years, Barbara Butler. They traveled the world and enjoyed playing chicken foot and cards. Chris loved to dance with Barbara; also surviving is his grandson, Jason; niece, Deborah McKinney and her husband, Clay; brother in law, Jim Price; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and his adopted family, Sherry, Alva, Sheena and Rex Stem, Woody and Pam Butler, LuAnne and Roger Frields, Susie Woodward and Johnny and Barbara Moon. The family would like to thank Royal Manor staff for their love and care for Chris. A special thank you for his adopted sister in law, Susie Woodward for all her love and dedication.
