Dewayne Kerr, 73, passed away on February 7, 2024. Mr. Kerr was born July 26, 1950, in Sanger, TX, to Walter Lee Kerr and Joyce Geraldine Hand. He was a friend to many and resided in the Waco area for many years. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Kerr and his wife, Ashley, of Houston, TX, and their three children, Noah, Ethan and Abigail; sisters, Yvonne Ferryman of Shady Shores, TX, Paulette Pelletier and her husband of St. Louis, MO; as well as many nieces and a nephew and their children. Although there are many people to say 'Thank You,' the family would like to thank Rita Zarate of Fairfield, TX, and his friend, Dean Blassingame of Waco, TX.He was preceded in death by his parents, along with a sister and brother.Mr. Kerr graduated from the Corsicana State Home in 1969 and was drafted to play baseball in the 27th round by the Cincinnati Reds out of high school. Although baseball did not work out, it remained a passion. It is quite an accomplishment to have been drafted ahead of a few key members of the Big Red Machine. He initially worked for the MKT "Katy" Railroad before it became the Union Pacific. He was known to many as "Dog" on the railroad. During his over 40 years of service, Dog worked many jobs within the railroad and made many memories before retiring as a Conductor in 2011. Dog did not meet many strangers along the way, and he always put others first.Dewayne loved spending time with family and was especially proud of his grandkids. He was an active member of River of Life Family Worship in Fairfield, TX, where he met many friends that he considered family. Both he and Rita were dedicated servants in the children's ministry for several years. Although he couldn't always attend, Dewayne wanted to listen to Pastor Robert and his wife, Lissa, sing as often as he could. His services will be officiated by Robert Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Dewayne (Pop) Kerr to River of Life Family Worship in Fairfield, TX.
