Donald E. Campbell, Sr. 82, completed his earthly tasks on Thursday, February 25, 2010. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Retired Minister Joe Miller and assisted by Mike Copeland First Baptist of China Spring officiating. A private interment will follow. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 26 at the funeral home. He was born on August 22, 1927 to Henry (Bo) Campbell and Fairy Thompson Campbell in Hallsburg, Texas. At the age of 14, he was added to the Methodist Church in Hallsburg and attended Baptist churches throughout his life, as well as West Brethren Church. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served in the Pacific on an aircraft carrier. He married Lydia Rose Machan one January 24, 1947 and they lived in the Waco and Axtell areas during their married life. He was dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He retired from General Tire Rubber Co. after 36 years, where he was active in Local 312 Union. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed coaching baseball for his son and grandsons. He was also a member of several local riding clubs. He and his wife enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes with family and friends, He looked forward to arrival of his beloved purple martins each spring. He was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Love and Nelda Ruth Campbell. He was survived by his wife of 63 years, Lydia Campbell, on son, Donald E. Campbell, Jr. and wife Dessie of China Spring, TX, one daughter, Nelda Campbell of Waco, sister Margaret Ellen Gant; grandsons, James Roscher and wife Ervin of Tulsa, OK, Phillip Roscher and wife Sally of Waco and Matthew Roscher and wife Beth of Birmingham AL., granddaughters, Casey Akin and husband Joshua of College Station, Leigh Edwards and husband Greg of Houston, Rhonda Gullett of Bryan, Stephanie Shuler of Durham, N.C. and Leigh Ann Rasberry and husband Lee of Durban N.C. and great-grandchildren, Whitney Lynn and husband Adam of Waco, Bryan Roscher of Waco, Stephen Roscher, Brittany Roscher, Conner Roscheer, Corbyn and Kaylyn Roscher all of Tula, OK., Amanda Edwards of Houston, Jackson Roscher of Waco, Christian Carver Rasberry and Camryn Rasberry of Durham, N.C. and one great-great-granddaughter Regan Roscher of Waco. Donations may be made to the Hillcrest Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff of Hillcrest Hospice and Texas Oncology of Waco for their care of our loved one. Pallbearers will be Charles Love, Larry Carr, Clinton Machan, James Roscher, Phillip Roscher and Joshua Akin.
