Douglas Vaughn Poston, 70, of Bellmead passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 10 am Friday, February 15 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.J. Kent Berry of the First United Methodist Church of Valley Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the Poston-Odle Family Cemetery in Valley Mills. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Thursday, February 14th at the funeral home. Douglas was born October 2, 1942 in Clifton, TX. To D.T. and Ruth (McKinney) Poston. He attended Valley Mills Schools and then graduated from LaVega High School in Bellmead in 1961. He studied the Art of Baking at Arlington State (currently UTA). Douglas married Wanda J. Gifford on October 24, 1969. He owned and operated Doug's Snowflake Donut Shop in Gatesville and the Bellmead Bakery prior to working for Skaggs Alpha-Beta. Douglas liked classic cars and still owned his 1931 Chevrolet Sedan. He also enjoyed sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Douglas was a role model for how to maintain a positive attitude through any life challenge. His doctor nicknamed him "Happy" because of his always positive and friendly disposition. Douglas was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Gifford Poston, father D.T. Poston and brother John Poston. Survivors include mother, Ruth Poston of Valley Mills: sons, Ronnie Poston and wife Sherry of Hubbard and Kevin Poston and wife Tracy of Lacy-Lakeview: daughters, Sherrie Chapman and husband Rick of Lorena, Karen Gravitt and husband Paul of China Spring and Barbara Poston of Bellmead: sister, Beverly Castro of Benbrook: brothers, Don Poston and wife Kitty of Valley Mills, Ron Poston and wife Pam of Valley Mills: five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be, Christopher Gravitt, Bradley Gravitt, Paul Gravitt, Brad Poston, Randall Dugger, David Kirk and Lewis Breeland. Special thanks go to the doctors and staff of the Bellmead Kidney Disease Center for all their years of kind and quality care, and also to the doctors, nurses, and physicial therapists at Hillcrest Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
