Ellen May

March 8, 1943 — November 8, 2024

Ellen Rae Boyer May, 81, of Waco, Texas, passed away on November 8, 2024, carrying the same bright spirit that defined her remarkable life.

Born March 8, 1943, in Baytown, Texas, to Ray and Lucy Boyer, Ellen was known for her boundless love of life and ability to make friends wherever she went. Her infectious personality and warm heart meant she truly never met a stranger.

Ellen had a deep passion for music, particularly the vibrant scene in Austin, Texas, where she delighted in experiencing live performances. She was an enthusiastic fan of Willie Nelson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, James Hand, Billy Joe Shaver, and Mike Morgan, among others. When she wasn't enjoying music, Ellen could often be found showcasing her exceptional skills at the pool table, competing in women's tournaments throughout the Waco area. Some of her most cherished memories were made riding on the back of her beloved husband's scooter, embracing life's simple pleasures with characteristic joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lucy Boyer; brothers Michael and Pat Boyer; her husband, Thomas Lee "Bubba" May Jr.; daughter Leslie Ellen May; and son Kenneth Todd Smith.

Ellen's legacy lives on through her surviving children: daughters Christy Hopkins, Chesney Whitley and husband Kurt, and son Judson May. She is also survived by her grandsons Jeremy Bolden, Ryan Hopkins and wife Jennifer, Cheston Goates, Corbin Goates and wife Danielle, and Trey Smith and wife Rachel. Her family grew to include 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind countless friends and loved ones who will deeply miss her presence.

Ellen's zest for life, love of music, and ability to bring people together will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew her.
