Ernest Dixon Toney Obituary
Ernest Dixon Toney, age 95, of Lorena went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
He was born to Ira L. Toney and Florence (Boozer) Toney on May 24, 1929 in Winters, Texas. He grew up on a farm in Drasco and graduated from Winters High School in 1947. He attended Angelo State University and the University of Houston.
He served in the Army from January 1949 until November 1951. He married Cordie L. Forgey on May 24, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Ballinger, Texas. They had a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Mary.
He worked for Lone Star Gas, Sears Roebuck and the Department of Health of Texas. His last 24 years before retirement were spent as a meat inspector throughout the state of Texas.
His Masonic career begin in 1965 in Brenham, Texas. He served in many Lodges in Texas with M. Denton Stanford 594 as his last Home Lodge. He received his Golden Trowel award there and also served as District Deputy, was a York Rite member and served in many offices in the local Chapters, Councils and Commandry. He served as Pussiant Sovereign in the Red Cross of Constantine, Governor of the York Rite Colleges and District Deputy of the Grand Chapter and Grand Council. He served as Grand Prelate of Grand Commandry and Templar Instruction Committee. He was a Knight Templar Cross of Honor recipient.
He was a member of the Waco Scottish Rite. He served as Wise Master, Degree Captain, sang in the choir, was cornetted a Knight Commander Court of Honor and served in other capacities in the Scottish Rite.
He served in the Odd Fellows in many offices in his local Lodge as well as several committees in the Grand Lodge. He served as District Deputy, 2 years as Grand Master of Odd Fellows, Grand Representative to the Sovereign Grand Lodge of the World and as Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Texas.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Hewitt. He taught Sunday School for over 50 years, was a Lay Delegate to Annual Conference , belonged to Methodist Men, was a Lay Speaker for many years, taught Bible Studies both within the church and in the community and held many offices within the church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Cordie and his son, Gregory. He is survived by his daughter Mary Mathias and grandsons Brandon and Jared Mathias as well as numerous family and friends.
God was important in his life and in serving him he served other people.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hewitt Methodist Church on August 24, 2024 at 10:00 am.
