Fred Wallace McMurtray Sr., 72, of Lacy-Lakeview, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at a local nursing home. Services will be 10 am Thursday, April 28 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester Adams officiating. Masonic service and burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, April 27 at the Funeral Home. Fred was born June 4, 1938 in Waco to John and Delores (King) McMurtray, served in the Army and married Rosemary Bartholomew. He worked at General Tire & Rubber Co. for 17 years, was a member of Fidelis Masonic Lodge #1127, was past Master of John Armstrong Lodge #291 in Valley Mills and Local Union #529. He enjoyed and shared his knowledge and passion of all outdoor sports, including hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed playing golf. Fred was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Survivors include his wife of 47 years Rosemary McMurtray of Lacy Lakeview; daughters Debra Thigpen of Waco and Donna Brown and husband Michael of Washington; sons Charles McMurtray and wife Kay of Lacy Lakeview, Fred McMurtray Jr. of Lacy Lakeview and Tom McMurtray and wife Michelle of Elgin; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Christopher Brown, Trey McMurtray, Ricky Thigpen, Tommy McMurtray Jr., Leo Miller and James "Bo" Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles McMurtray, Fred McMurtray and Tom McMurtray Sr.
