George January Sr., 66, of Bellmead beloved father and brother, was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, Aug.24 at his residence. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday. Aug. 28 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Campbell and Rev. Marvin Donnell officiating. Burial will be at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 at the funeral home. George was born April 15, 1943 in Bellmead to Charlie Wayne and Margarette Oletta (Yarbrough) January. He worked as a fireman for the Katy Railroad in the early 60's before completing Barber School in Waco. He then began a life long career as a Barber in the Bellmead, Arlington and Waco area's. George owned and operated his own shop in Midway for over a decade and worked many years at Lake Air Barber Shop and Parkdale Barber Shop. He was well known and respected by his peers as well as the vast number of clients he had throughout the years. His most memorable highlight was cutting Hank Williams Jr. hair which was marked by a picture he proudly displayed in his shop. George married Mary Ann Splitts in 1962 and raised two sons, George Jr. and Donald Ray. He was a devoted father who took great interest in their Little League and other sports activities during their childhood. He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life and spent many hours with his sons and nephews doing both. This devotion carried on to his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was known for always being there to help both family and friends in times of need. George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charlie Wayne January Jr.. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, George T. January Jr. and wife Barbara of Waco, Donald R. January of Bellmead, brother Dave Epps and wife Carol, sisters, Sandy Cummings, Reneau and Paula Epps Owen and husband Thom all of Rosenthal, stepbrother, Ted Smith of Elm Mott, stepsister's Sherry Graham and husband Bill of Waco and Annie Buckingham and husband Gene of Elm Mott, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 16 nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tim Cummings, Thom Owen, Matt Driskoll, George Michael, Wesley Russell, Ben January and Mark Marcum.
