Ila Genell Macy, known affectionately as Janell, passed away on August 1, 2024, in Mart, Texas, at the age of 84. Born on January 4, 1940, in Brady, Texas, she grew up in a loving family and later graduated from Northside High School in San Antonio, Texas.
Janell was a faithful Christian and an active member of the First Pentecostal Church in McGregor. Her faith and her church played significant roles throughout her life. She was a talented seamstress, known for crafting beautiful dresses for weddings as well as other lovely clothing items. Her creativity was also expressed through the handmade gifts she lovingly made for family and friends.
Family was central to Janell's life. She was a fiercely loyal family member, often caring for her grandchildren once her own children had grown. She enjoyed participating in family reunions and cherished her connections with friends from Zephyr school.
Janell is survived by her sister, Marlene, her children, Donald, Steven, Jim, Margo, and Jamie, 16 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Imogene Schooley, her brother, Donald, and two of her children, Ginger and Jay R.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a pre-funeral viewing on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m., and/or for the funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Bellmead Funeral Home, located at 809 La Clede Street, Waco, Texas, 76705. Bellmead Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
