Irene Boman, 72, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at a local hospital. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Stringer officiating. Irene, loving wife, mother and grandmother, (Mimi) was taken into the arms of her Christ at 7:30 a.m. on December 30th. She was the oldest of 6 siblings, born on March 21, 1937 to Rita Bell in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Atlantic City High School and joined the U.S. Navy in September, 1956. After basic training she attended Hospital Corps School in Bethesda, MD. She met Ray, her husband to be at the Naval Hospital, Oakland, CA. and they were married on April 19, 1958. She and Ray traveled widely during his naval career where she met and established an array of dear and beloved friends. Her greatest loves were her three children and grandchildren of who she was very proud of.She is survived by her husband, Ray, daughter, Julie Wilbanks and husband Rusty, grandson, Ryan, granddaughters, Jessica, Jenna and Erin of Hallsburg, son, Alan Boman and grandson, Bryce, daughter-in-law, Beth of League City, daughter, Teresa Yehle and husband Christian and granddaughter, Emma of League City, TX., sister Nancy Tortorello, nieces and nephews. Doug Stringer, Somebody Cares Ministry will conduct Memorial Services at 1 p.m. on January 9 at Bellmead Funeral Home, 809 LaClede, Waco 76705. At her request, she was cremated and will be laid to rest at Rosemound Cemetery at a later date with family only in attendance. The family would like to express a special thanks to the ICU nurses and physicians that displayed kind, compassionate and caring treatment during Irene's brief illness.
