Irene K. Linkous, 86, of Waco, passed away Sunday, June 1 in Waco. Services will be 1 pm Thursday, June 5 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7201 Viking Dr., Waco, TX 76712. Burial will be at Axtell Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, June 4 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Irene was born January 16, 1928 in Mexia, TX to Michael Louis and Annie (Vanek) Kohl. She married Joe Linkous in March of 1947, he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; her son, Troy Linkous; and a grandson, Darren. Irene, lovingly known as Gogge by her grandchildren, lived a life full of compassion and love for those around her. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to so many who will miss her vibrant smile and beautiful spirit. She enjoyed country music and singing about God. She often sang at local senior jam sessions and loved to line dance. Irene was known by many as a "sun goddess" and could be found year-round soaking up rays. She continually thought of others and gave her heart to many throughout her life. Irene loved her family dearly and will be truly missed everyday. She selflessly took care of her youngest son, Troy, on hospice until his early death. As a woman of faith, it is with happiness that she is able to join him in the next life through the salvation of Christ. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Tillery of Waco; son, Tom Linkous of Sandy, Utah; 5 grandchildren, Melinda and Veronika of Waco, Kevin and Ryan of Utah and Jody of Las Vegas; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
