Jack L. Abel Sr., 73, of Bellmead went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, June 11, 2011. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16 at Oak Lawn Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be follow at Crawford Cemetery in Crawford. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Jack was born October 15, 1937 in Crawford, TX to William Autra and Nettie Evelena (Gunnin) Abel. Jack proudly served his country in the USAF for 4 years and began a long term career in Law Enforcement. He married Willie Pearl Thompson on June 2, 1962. He dearly loved his family, loved fishing, but most of all loved worshipping his Lord and Savior. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. Those who knew him loved him and he will be truly missed. Jack was a member and deacon of Oak Lawn Baptist Church and had worked at L3 Communications for at least 11 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Wayne Lanier Abel, and a brother, Billy Jones Abel. Survivors include his wife of 49 years Willie Abel of Bellmead; daughters, Susan Abel of Waco, Ronda Wells and husband David of Golden and Paula Johnson and husband Steve of Axtell; sons, Jack Abel Jr. and wife Michelle of Bellmead, John Abel and wife Kristi of Hewitt; sisters, Louise Anderson of Elm Mott, Sarah Dawn Barton and husband Charles of Robinson; brother, Franklin Abel and wife Dee Ann of Crawford; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
