James Darrell Miller, 62, of Axtell, was called to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at his residence with his wife, Linda and granddaughter, Chelsea by his side. Services will be 2 pm Saturday, September 22, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Friday, September 21 at the funeral home. James was born December 12, 1949, to James Ruben and Audrey (Cloer) Miller in Rosebud and spent the early years of his life in Lott, Texas. His family moved to Waco when James was 8 years old and he met his future wife, Linda Fogle when he was 11 years old. They played together and fought as all kids do. When James was 18, they eloped to Greenville, SC, and married on December 30, 1967 and began an adventure of almost 45 years together. James was an accomplished musician who played bass guitar with Lynda Gayle, Cindy Barron and many others over the years. He was pilot of his Cessna 150 and former member of Axtell Air Force Wings for Christ. He loved riding his horse, "Candy", playing golf, riding his motorcycle and spending many weekends camping and fishing with his family and friends. James retired from Time Warner Cable after 30 years of service where he made many close lifelong friends. He was a member of LDS Church which he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Fred Melvin "Scooter" Lewis in 1992; and a brother, Billy Don Miller. Survivors include his wife, Linda Gail Miller of Axtell; granddaughter, Chelsea Nicole Lewis of Axtell; daughter-in-law, Jenny Lynn and her husband, Ross Mortimer; sister and first play mate, Mildred Tollison of Riesel; Baby sister, Teresa Lucas and her husband, Steve of Nacogdoches; Baby brother, Kevin Miller and his wife, Lisa of Riesel; and many close and beloved nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be "Time Warner Family", Landon Painter, Pat Beach, Peter Torres, Tommy Davis, Boyce Rockett and Danny Darr. Honorary are, Shanna Beach, Cindy Barr, Johnny Tindle, Rick Padilla, Ron Schrader, Luke Rawlings, B. J. Johnson and James Jones. There are many people to thank for the compassionate care James was given over the past 13 months including his physicians, Dr. Chakmakjian, Dr. Gary K. Barbin, Dr. Ed Contreras and Bluebonnet Home Health/Hospice for making it possible for James to be in comfort of his own home. A special thanks to his best friend and brother-in-law, Paul Martindale who spent every day of these past months with James. We would also like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
