JL Crawford, 83 of Lacy Lakeview, passed away Sunday, February 3 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be 3:00 pm Saturday, February 9 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. JL was born March 21, 1929 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Joda Lee and Ruby (Sadler) Crawford. He graduated from Galena Park High School where he lettered in Football. He worked at Brown and Root as a Journeyman Machinist until joining the Navy. He retired from the Navy with over 21 years of service and went to work as an Instructor at TSTI. He rose to the position of Professor and Program Chairman of the Dental Technology Program and owned BJ Dental Laboratory. He was a certified Dental Technician in four specialty areas. JL retired from the McLennan County District Attorneys office as a special investigator and was a licensed police officer. He liked music, reading, gardening, hunting and fishing and also enjoyed spending his time serving the Lacy Lakeview Community on the City Council and as Mayor. JL was a lifetime shooting enthusiast, a Lifetime NRA member, he earned the distinguished marksmanship medal while a member of the Navy Rifle and Pistol Team and was an NRA certified Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun Instructor. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Crawford of Lacy Lakeview; son, Jody Crawford and wife, Ruth of Whitney; daughter, Denise Fanger of Corpus Christi; grandsons, Shaun and Scott Crawford; and sister, Mary Alice Bundy of Galena Park.
