John W. "Woodie" Lambert, 93, of Waco, passed away Saturday, September 29, at his residence. Services will be 11 am Thursday, October 4 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Leanne Ryan and Nathan Doss officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, October 3, at Bellmead Funeral Home. Woodie was born June 15, 1919 in Memphis, TN, to William Benjamin and Ivy Maye (Landers) Lambert. Woodie married Gwen Nilsson on January 4, 1956, and she preceded him in death on February 1, 2007 after 51 years of marriage. They retired back to the Waco area after Woodie proudly served for over 21 years in the Air Force and served in the Army during WWII. He loved being a part of the Waco Masonic Lodge. Woodie was a loving husband , father, grandfather and great grandfather. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Francis Martinez. Survivors include his son, John W. Lambert II and wife, Anna of Waco; daughter, Gwenda Deike and husband, Bobby of Whitney; sister, Mary Elizabeth Scroggins of Hesperia, CA; grandchildren, Christie Cain and husband, David, Jake Lambert, Jylian Lambert and Ethan and Caleb Deike; great grandchildren, Micaela and Keaton Cain; and several nieces and nephews.
