Katherine Petzold Paine, 97, of Bellmead passed away, Friday, January 23, 2009 on her 97th birthday at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 26 at Sparks Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Sansom officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 25 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Katherine was born January 23, 1912 in Waco to the late Frank and Freida (Lorenz) Petzold. She attended LaVega and Waco schools and played on the first Women's Basketball team. She graduated in 1932 and entered Providence Hospital School of Nursing. On April 1. 1934, she was united in marriage to S. Edgar Paine of Waco. She was a long standing member and faithful servant of Sparks Memorial United Methodist Church until her health prevented her attendance. She was past Worthy Matron of Bellmead Chapter No. 980 Order of Eastern Star and celebrated her 50th year of Eastern Star membership in 2004. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile, Charter Member of Baylor Senior Adult Choir and member of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Jerry Edgar Paine, 3 brothers, Otto, Walter and George Petzold, a sister Emma Marie Petzold Bailey and son-in-law, James Michael Todaro. Katherine is survived by a daughter, Beverly Paine Todaro, granddaughter, Alicia Carol Todaro, nephews, David Bailey of Temple, Jesse Alden Paine of Whitney and David Nicholl of Dallas and several nieces and many friends. Prayer: "We remember You in this solemn hour and will remember the days, when you were of this Earth watching over us. You are gone now but your image will live in our hearts. May our Merciful Father reward you for the Faithfulness and Kindness you have shown us He lift up the Light of His Countenance Upon You and Grant You Eternal Peace.
