Lawrence James "Ted" Tanner, Jr., 87, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be 2pm Monday, April 25 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Terry Wilkerson officiating. Visitation will 10 am to 12:00 noon Monday, April 25 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Ted was born July 31, 1923 in Athens, Texas to L. J. and Barbara (Green) Tanner. He served in the Navy during WWII and married Mary Edna Hunt. Ted was a claim and damage supervisor for the MKT Railroad for 16 years, the Pennsylvania Railroad for 22 years and the Conrail Railroad until retiring. He was a longtime member, deacon and custodian at Oaklawn Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Edna Tanner of Waco; daughters Kathleen Tanner of Waco and Susan Smedley and husband Michael who was like a son of Colorado; sister Dorothy Bridger of Waco; grandchildren Nadine Stepp, Serena Smedley, Jane Peterson, Jennifer Holley and Teresa Smedley; great grandchildren Isabella Stepp, Avarey Peterson, Cypher Holley, Brianna Peterson, Rosemary Stepp and Bastian Holley.
