Martha "Billie" Grentzenberg Vinson of Waco peacefully passed from this life into eternity with her Lord and Savior on December 22, 2015 at 95 years of age surrounded by many of her family members. Billie was born on May 31, 1920 in Gulfport, Mississippi to William and Mary Evelyn DeCamp Grentzenberg. Due to job opportunities and business changes, her family lived in Mississippi, Florida, Ohio and Tennessee before settling in Texas in 1938. She graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1938. In the fall of 1939, Billie met and started dating Fred Newton Vinson and on February 8, 1941, they married in a beautiful chapel in San Antonio. They were happily married just shy of 75 wonderful years. Billie and Fred lived in San Antonio until 1957 when they moved to Waco, where they remained. Billie was a loving, devoted and gracious wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who spent her life caring for her family. Her love for God and her family were evident in her life. She was a lifelong homemaker and caretaker of her family as well as an excellent cook. She was a true servant, always anxious to care for and help her family. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, and patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Adoringly known as "Mema" to her grandchildren, they lovingly remember her as a role model to be looked up to and emulated, her gracious service to her family, and her inviting, cozy home. Her presence in their lives will continue to impact them daily. Billie was blessed with a large and loving family. She was a generous and dedicated individual who loved her family and who was passionate about the people she loved. She was an active and dedicated member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school and served as Secretary of the Friendship Class. She also enjoyed volunteering at Hillcrest Hospital. Billie was an avid gardener who enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing gin rummy with her husband, and watching sunsets from their patio. Her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her Creator, dearly miss her. Billie is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Evelyn Hirons, half-brother, Vincent Grentzenberg, and daughter-in-law Carole Vinson. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Fred Newton Vinson, Sr. of Waco; her son, Fred Newton Vinson, Jr. of Dallas; her daughter, Janice Vinson Davis and husband John of Waco; her daughter, Sara Vinson Mull and husband Randy of Waco. Her grandchildren include Lacey Vinson Wells and husband Gary of Double Oak, Texas; Jack Davis and wife Caroline of Portland, Oregon; Shannon Vinson Garrett and husband Paul of Carrollton; Fred Davis of New York City; Brooke Davis Simpson and husband Kevin of Buda, Texas; Meredith Mull Aggarwal and husband Ekansh of Bangalore, India; Lindsey Mull Newton and husband Josiah of Memphis, Tennessee; Rebecca Mull Janes and husband Daniel of Houston; and Ryan Mull of Austin. Great-grandchildren include Reece, Holly Ann and Walker Wells, Tucker and Kendall Davis, and Gwyneth and Fortlage Newton. Many other dear family members will miss her as well. It was Billie's desire that no viewing or services be conducted in her memory. The family will privately celebrate her life.
