Mary Ann Holmes

Mary Ann Holmes passed from this life on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the age of 91.
Visitation and Rosary will be held at the Bellmead Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28 with the visitation beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the Rosary at 7 p.m.
Her Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead by Father Timothy Vaverek on Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia following the funeral mass by Father Darrell Kostiha.
Mary Ann was born December 9, 1931, in Westphalia, Texas to Annie Frei and Ferdinand Hoelscher. She grew up in Westphalia where she attended primary school and then graduated from Rosebud High School in 1949. She loved playing basketball in high school. After graduation, she moved to Waco and began working at Wood's Manufacturing downtown. Mary Ann was working in downtown Waco during the tornado in 1953. She also enjoyed playing softball in a Waco league in her early 20's. Mary Ann was a homemaker for many years before she began working at K Mart, where she was employed for 20 years. She loved playing ''42'' and old country music, traveling to jamborees across central Texas. Mary Ann also enjoyed sewing, embroidery, ceramics and painting. She took great pride in her yard, growing flowers in beds around the house and she loved her potted plants. Being surrounded by family and friends was also an important part of her life. In retirement, she always started the day with a cup of coffee and the morning paper.
Mary Ann and her family attended the St. Joseph's Catholic Church since 1961. She was an active member of Catholic Daughter's for many years.
Mary Ann married William Lawrence Holmes in 1953, enjoying 53 years of marriage before he passed away in 2006. They had one son, Bryan David,
that passed away soon after his birth. Mary Ann is one of 14 siblings. Six sisters, Bertha, Lucille, Anita, Angeline, Beatrice, Jane and six brothers, Herbert, Ervin, Lewis, Wilfred, Cecil, Bernard (Peanut) which preceded her in death.
Mary Ann has one surviving brother, Leon.
Mary Ann is also survived by her daughters Debbie Tisdale and husband Mike and Jaclyn Duggan and husband Tim. She has 7 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care provided by the staff of Hillcrest Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Sajan, Dr. Shah, Dr. Lott and Dr. Florian. Thank you also to the wonderful nursing staff, Shelby, Danielle, Beaulah and many others.
