Mattie Marguerite Neyland Loveless was born on July 19, 1921 in the community of Bowling, Leon County, Texas to the parents of Robert Ennis and Mattie Prather Neyland. She was the 5th of 6 children. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the age of 92 in Bedford, Texas. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sparks Memorial Methodist Church, 900 Maxfield St. Bellmead, Texas 76705. Visitation with family will be at 1:00p.m. at the church before services. Burial will follow at Oakwood, Cemetery, 2124 South 5th Street, Waco, Texas. She grew up on a farm and ranch in Centerville, TX during the depression. She graduated as salutatorian of Centerville High School in 1938. Besides excelling in academics, she was named all county volleyball spiker, played tennis and was the ace pitcher in softball. She was named Black Eye Pea Festival Duchess and sang in school musicals, weddings, funerals and with the Neyland Gospel Quartet. The Quartet represented the Stamps Baxter School of Music at singing conventions all across the state and on the radio. After graduation she attended the Draughan's Business School in Houston where she graduated early. She worked at The Hub, a men's retail store on Main Street in Houston prior to returning to her hometown to work for Old Age Assistance. On September 25, 1941 she married C.E. "Chuck" Loveless. Three months later, WWII began and Chuck joined the Army Air Corp at Perrin Field in Sherman, Texas. They were transferred to Independence, Kansas and Marguerite worked as the secretary/assistant to the Colonel in charge of Flight Operations. While her husband was overseas she continued in the civilian war effort and worked for Harman Military Hospital in Longview, Texas. Moving to Waco in 1946, she worked for General Electric, then partnered with her husband in the retail store "Chuck's Salvage and Discount" where they were founding members in the Bellmead Chamber of Commerce. She finished her career as Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Bellmead, working there for twenty years and remaining active in the Texas Municipal League. After retirement she served on the Parks and Recreation Committee. Being civic minded she worked on behalf of the Bellmead Lions Club with many fund raisers but, is most fondly remembered for her performance in the Follies. She was a charter member of the Lioness Club, participated with her husband in the Karem Shrine and was a 60 year member of the Bellmead Chapter of the Eastern Star. She actively campaigned on behalf of many candidates for the Bellmead City Council. She, along side her husband, help to incorporate the City of Bellmead in 1954, and later helped secure the funding and building of the Bellmead Community Center. She was proclaimed by the Bellmead City Council as the "Mother of Bellmead." She served as PTA and PTO president as well as president of the LaVega Band Booster Club. She was appointed by the court to serve on the Bi-Racial Committee beginning in 1971. In addition to being a room mother she also served as a Girl Scout Leader. She also had a passion for Baylor University football and was a season ticket holder for 40 years. She was an active member of Sparks Memorial Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for 60 years. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School. She served on the Board of Stewards, Paster Parrish Relations and in the United Methodist Women. The family would like to thank her care givers over the past four years, especially the devotion of Dorothy Parker. She is survived by her daughters Jann Loveless Lynch and husband John, Cynthia Loveless Harriman and husband Steve, grandchildren, Lacy and Layne Lynch, Haley, Suzanne and Beau Harriman, all of Colleyville. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.E. Chuck Loveless of 46 years, sisters Vela Todd, Roger Neyland, Thelma Beeler, Jackie Price, and Jo Gresham, all of Texas.
