Maxine Hooper, of Burkburnett, Texas, formerly of Randlett, Oklahoma, passed away at the home of her son, on January 20, 2009 at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 29 days. Maxine was born near Randlett, Oklahoma on August 22, 1917 to George L. and Icena (Gibson) Pfeifer. On November 24, 1935, she married Paul M. Hooper. To this union was born one son, Michael. Maxine lived east of Randlett on the original Pfeifer homestead for most of her life until she moved to Burkburnett in 1981. She remained a faithful member of the Randlett United Methodist Church where she served as pianist, Sunday school teacher and in many other roles. Maxine was a devoted mother and wife, supporting the farming and ranching operation of her husband, Paul, until his untimely death from an automobile accident on August 30, 1965. After his death, she attended business school in Wichita Falls, Texas and went to work for the Civil Service at Sheppard Air Force Base, retiring from there. She enjoyed gardening, had an insatiable appetite for reading, especially biographies, and was well known for making beautiful quilts. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Lavois, who died in infancy, a brother, Rexford Pfeifer, a sister, Goldena Griffin, and a grandson, Michael Scott Hooper. She is survived by her beloved sister and best friend, Nadine Bowles, of Burkburnett, Texas, sister, Lucille Julius, of Moore, Oklahoma, sister, Jewel Estes of Wichita Falls, Texas, son Michael and wife Patricia, of Lorena, Texas, grandson Paul Hooper, of Nocona Hills, Texas, grandson Clint Hooper and wife Amanda, of Iowa Park, Texas, grandson Jordan Hooper, of Lorena, Texas, step-grandson, Chris Alaminski and wife, Janet, of Liberty Hill, Texas, step-grandson, Heath Wigley and wife, Angie, of Roanoke, Texas, four great-grandchildren, Chance Hooper of Nocona Hills, Texas, Rayne Hooper of Wichita Falls, Texas, Andrew Hooper of Wichita Falls, Texas, Orion Hooper of Lorena, Texas and six step-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Christopher and Alexia Alaminski of Liberty Hill, Texas and Dakota Cruthird, Tyler Ohm, and Cuay O'Connor, all of Iowa Park, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. She was lovingly known to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Gebo, a name given her by her oldest grandson Paul. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2:00 pm, at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, Oklahoma, Rev. David Gardner, Randlett United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Memorials should be made to the Randlett United Methodist Church, Randlett, Oklahoma, or to the Bethel Methodist Church, Robinson, Texas.
