Before the age of 10, Naomi lost her mother and was reared by her loving daddy with help from aunts and uncles. Naomi grew a passionate appreciation and love for the veterans that sacrificed so much in acquiring, insuring, and maintaining our country's freedom and dedicated her remaining years to support and help our nation's veterans. During the years prior to her daddy passing, she began her journey of pursuing music, Christianity, and love of family.
After marrying Robert Mangum, she was blessed with a beautiful family consisting of 5 children, 8 grandchildren, 12 great- grandchildren, and too many to count ''Mangum's Strays & Orphans''. Naomi devoted her love, compassion, and care to her family. She believed in a proper up bring and discipline as well as providing a warm and humble home with fun and laughter aplenty.
Known to the ones she loved and adored as ''Mamaw'', she often used phrases such as ''You can go to hell for lying same as stealing'', ''Count your blessings'', and ''Keep your own shirt tail clean'' to instill the same morals and values she believed and practiced, in everyone she could.
Also known for her involvement in extracurricular activities with her family, Mamaw always went ''full bore'' up to and including breaking her shoulder playing tackle football with her children.
Mamaw was an avid member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Colonial Dames, and Daughters of 1812. She was a true disciple for Christ and her church, loved fine arts, and was one ''hell-of-a-cook'' that spoiled everyone that tasted it.
Mamaw will always be loved, appreciated, and missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Carrie Naomi Dodson; her husband, Robert ''Bob'' Mangum; her children, Cecil and Naomi; and grandson, Spencer Mangum.
Survivors include her sons, Robert ''Bob Jr.'' Mangum, John Mangum and Sam Mangum; her grandchildren, Robert Mangum III, John Hines II, Pete Hines, Jennifer Mangum, Seth Mangum, Steven Mangum and Mindy Sassman; her great-grandchildren, Brista, Jamie, Haley, Gavin and Grayson, Hope, Rowan and Aaron, Eli and Aric and Jacob and Emily.
A celebration of life service will be 3:00 pm Friday, December 9, 2022 in the Fellowship Hall at Columbus Ave. Baptist Church, 1300 Columbus Ave., Waco, Texas 76701.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a Veterans Association of your choice.
