After retiring from the petroleum industry in 1987, his life was dedicated to his family and church, as he was a 50-year member of the Parkwood Methodist Church in Pasadena, Texas where he served in any capacity that was needed. He served a private and quiet ministry to those in need. He mowed lawns for the widows, and when he visited the men in nursing homes he would shave their faces to give them a feeling of dignity. He liked his VW ''Bugs'', fishing, playing pool, darts, and dominoes. He played dominoes with family and staff until shortly before his passing. He was blessed by doing something that he loved for his entire life.
He was preceeded in death by: his parents; his wife, Janice ''Judy'' Slough in 2013; his son, Allen Slough in 2006, and his 9 siblings.
He is survived by his daughter, Beverly (Slough) New and husband, Joel, of Waco; grandchildren, Brett New of Waco, and Rebecca (New) Boyko and husband, Brent, of Waco; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Alex, Titus and Colby; many nieces, nephews and others who loved him as an adopted grandfather.
