Raymond C. Arnold, 90, of Bellmead, passed away Monday, April 15 at a local hospital. Services will be 10 am Friday, April 19 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Father Timothy Vaverek officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Thursday, April 18 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Raymond was born December 22, 1922 in Hope, Arkansas to Bennie and Ida (Diggs) Arnold. He enlisted in the Army during WWII. During WWII, he served in the 14th Armored Division as a tank commander. He fought through southern France, Ardennes/Alsace, Operation Northwind, through the Siegfried Line into Germany, and the liberation of POW and concentration camps. He remained with the occupation force there after the war. He also served in Alaska and Korea. In 1957 he met and married Heidi Ferdin in Germany. He retired as a First Sergeant after 21 years of service. He and his family moved to Bellmead in 1964. He worked for A.O. Smith, Marathon Co., and retired from Veterans Administration Hospital. Raymond was a member of the American Legion Post 0121. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors include his wife, Heidi Arnold of Bellmead; son, Ray Arnold and wife, Wilynn of Arlington; grandchildren, Steven Arnold of San Marcos and Alyssa Arnold of Dallas.
