Raymond E. LaFon 88 of Waco passed away Thursday Oct. 9 at St. Catherine's Center. Services will be 2 pm Monday October 13 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel 809 LaClede St. in Bellmead with Rev. Terry Wilkerson of Oaklawn Baptist Church officiating and Hospice Chaplain Suzanne Smith assisting. Burial with Military Honors will be at Waco Memorial Park.Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Sunday October 12 at the funeral home. Mr. LaFon was born December 17, 1919 in Morgan, TX the son of Ernest and Caroline (Harris) LaFon. He graduated from Morgan High School May 1940, joined the Navy November of 1940 and married Ora Lee Tilley December 1940.He served on 5 ships and retired from the Navy in 1960 after 20 years of service. He went to work at the Waco VA Hospital where he retired after 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.He is survived by his wife of 68 years Ora Lee LaFon, 3 children Kaye Solomon, Dayle LaFon and D.J. (Jill) LaFon, 2 grandchildren Don and Darin LaFon and 1 great grandson Jaden LaFon, Don's wife Kim and Darin's wife Francin and several nieces and nephews. Mr. LaFon and family acknowledges his greatest Navy friends J.C. Barnhill, Thomas I. Coulter, Bill Mentor, George Hodgeson, Robert Moore and Jim Leach. Pallbearers will be from the Military Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be to Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank Hospice workers Shelia and Suzanne and St. Catherine's worker Sandy.
