Richard Hughes, 60, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, August 26 in Dallas. Services will be 2 pm Friday, August 29 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roger Huff officiating. Burial will follow at 4:15 pm Friday at the Mexia Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 pm to 7:30 pm Thursday, August 28 at Bellmead Funeral Home. Richard was born January 12, 1954 in Bossier City, Louisiana to James W. and Ruby L. (Harris) Hughes. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from ETBU and was a self-taught guitar and keyboard player who's greatest passion was music. Richard worked for Morton Thiokol and Caddo Lake State Park in Karnak, Texas, CMS Air Conditioning in Waco and was currently employed at TSTC. He was a member of Community Fellowship Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and playing practical jokes. Richard is survived by his daughter, Kim Nixon and son-in-law, Danny of Marshall; his 3 grandchildren, Daniel, McKenzie and Isaiah; his mother, Ruby Fairchild and step-father, Patrick Fairchild of Waco; his father, James W. Hughes and step-mother, Jo Ann Hughes of Waco; his siblings, Larry Hughes and wife, Peggy of Waco, Steven Hughes and wife, Shara of Mexia, Sherry Hughes Erkfitz of Waco and Wesley Hughes and wife, Natalie of Waco; nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Ashley, Blake, Cameron, Christiana and Megan; great niece and nephews, Kristen, Adelyn and Caleb; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Loden, Dr. Carl Chakmakjian, Dr. Robert Berryman and the nurses and staff at Providence Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center for their care and support.
