Robbie Lorraine (Porterfield) Kirk, 95, a native of Moody, TX and a resident of Bellmead, TX for more than 70 years, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at The Atrium of Bellmead, where she had resided since April 2015. Mrs. Kirk, eighth of nine children, was born in Spring Valley, TX to Thomas Carroll and Katura "Katie" Green (Wheat) Porterfield, Central Texas tenant farmers. She graduated from Waco High School in 1939, where she had played on the girls' baseball team. In the 1930s, she had been a waitress at Triple XXX Drive-In and Leslie's Chicken Shack in Waco. She worked as a secretary at City Hospital in Waco under President Roosevelt's National Youth Administration program and was a U.S. Navy wife in the 1940s. While raising three children, she worked as a secretary at the Bellmead Water Dept. and for five years was a Baylor University Bookstore employee. She retired as assistant to the director of Woodland Springs Nursing Home in 1983 after 17 years of service. In 2013, she was designated an "Alumni by Choice" of the Baylor Alumni Assn., BAA's oldest inductee to date. Robbie, formerly a 50+year member of Bellmead First Baptist Church, was a longtime member of Oak Lawn Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her parents, her five brothers Cecil, David, John, Luther and Ernest (Buddy) -- and three sisters, Lois Garner, Alma Shepard and Marie Donaldson. Her husband of 57 years, Albert Monroe "Cookie" Kirk, a Nabisco Company employee, died in 1997. Mrs. Kirk is survived by her son David Lee Kirk and his wife Alice of Bellmead; twins Patricia "Trish" Dawson and her husband Bob of Lorena, TX; and Preston F. Kirk and his wife Ronda Dale of Spicewood, TX.Grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren include Robert Jason Kirk and wife Kristi of Robinson and their children Bailey and Hannah; David Wayne Culp and wife Beverly of Valley Mills and their children Tracer Ray Carter, Mallory Paige Culp and Monica Culp Norris of Waco and her sons Adam Jr. and Braxton; Donnie Lee Culp and partner Chris Busse of Austin; Jeromy Ficke and wife Vanessa and their son Ethan and daughter Lucy of Bruceville.Survivors also include dozens of nieces and nephews and many more great to great-great-great grandchildren, all of whom she was proud. Fond farewells go to the remaining members of her Sunday School Class, The Friendship Class. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Atrium Nursing Home for their dedicated and caring service. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tues., Jan. 12, at Bellmead (TX) Funeral Home, 809 LaClede St., 254-799-5701. Service will be at 2 p.m., Wed., Jan. 13, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Wilkinson, pastor of Oak Lawn Baptist, officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason, David Wayne, Donnie Lee, Jeromy and Bailey, as well as Chris Busse. Additional music will be provided by her nephew Boyd Donaldson and his wife Patti of Marietta, OK.
