Selma Faye Gorgas, 95, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

A memorial service will be 4:00 pm Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the West Rest Haven Nursing Home, 503 Meadow Dr., West, TX 76691.

Faye was born December 2, 1924 in the Gerald Community in McLennan County to Herman and Sophie (Benkengorfer) Janke. She attended Gerald primary school and graduated from West High School in 1942. In 1945 she worked and trained to become a floral designer at Muhl Flowers in Waco. Later that year, she was sent to West when Muhls opened the first flower shop there. During that time she joined the United Methodist Church where she was a choir member. She retired from Muhls in 1948 and married Hugo Gorgas on January 16, 1949 at the Methodist Church in West. They made their first home in Houston, Texas and later moved back to Waco. She worked at 25th St. Flower Shop for a short time and retired from Croziers Flowers after 20 years of service. She joined CASA and the Waco Gem and Mineral Club. She worked stones for belt buckles, bola ties and jewelry. She wrote poetry, songs and short stories, some of which were published in America and London, England. She also played the harmonica, enjoyed doing decapodge and participated in the Special Olympics for 2 years. Faye enjoyed quilting and designed the quilt block for the West part in the McLennan County quilt in 1986.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son Dickey Glynn Gorgas.

Survivors include her son, Ricky Lynn Gorgas of West; and several other family and close friends.
