Sylvia Wehmeyer, 78, of Canyon Lake, Texas passed away on
Monday, March 20, 2017 at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio of complications of
stroke following heart surgery. She was surrounded by her family at bedside at
the time of going home to be with her Lord and Savior. A funeral will be held
11:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Bellmead Funeral Chapel. Burial will
follow at Riesel Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00
a.m. prior to the funeral.
Sylvia was born April 22, 1938 in Ben Hur, Texas to Edwin
and Eleanora (Rasner) Hinze. She graduated from La Vega in 1956. At age 22, she married, "the One", William R.
Wehmeyer on July 11, 1959. Their marriage lasted for 57 years. Sylvia and her
husband, Bill, lived in the Kansas City Kansas area where he served as a
minister. They then moved to Missouri
where they continued to serve God in church ministry. Sylvia was a church organist, pianist, choir
member and soloist.
While her children were in school, Sylvia went back to
college and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau,
Mo. in 1981 earning a degree in education. She taught as an elementary school
teacher in Missouri. Upon retirement she and Bill returned to her beloved state
of Texas. She continued to work with children volunteering once a week for Good
News Club, an after school club, until her surgery.
Sylvia was an active member at First Baptist Church, Canyon
Lake, and previous member of First Baptist Church Bellmead, Texas. She was a member of the Singing Women of
South Texas and former member of Baylor Singing Seniors. She enjoyed reading, singing, painting, craft
work and being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother and brother,
Jimmie D. Hinze. She is survived by her husband, Bill; children: Ray and Janet Wehmeyer, Canyon Lake, TX; Randy
and Robin Wehmeyer, St. Louis, MO; Amber
and Lance Cichocki, Coppell, TX; grandchildren:
Matthew and Samantha Wehmeyer, Canyon Lake, TX; William and Melissa
Wehmeyer and great grandchildren; Violet, Knox, and Rowan, Chandler, Az.;
Nephews: Jack and Leslie Donohue, OK;
Mike Donohue, KS; Nieces: Ellie and Kevin Oginski, , TX; Stormy and Aaron
LaMantia, PA; Sara and Tracey Ratcliff, WV.
