Tommie Hawthorne, 74, of Bellmead, while peacefully sleeping, entered Heaven to be with her Lord on Thursday June 18. 2009. Services will be 10:30 am Monday June 22 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clifton Jones and Rev. John Collier officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Sunday June 21 at the funeral home. Tommie was born in a log cabin in Wells, TX to Elbert and Jimmie (Davis) Cherry on July 8, 1934. After marriage to Norman Shannon in 1950, she gave birth to her first three children. They were long time residents of Houston, where she represented Tupperware and was a homemaker. Later in life she married Lawrence Hawthorne and they resided mostly in Prairie Grove, where they were active members of Prairie Grove Baptist Church. Larry preceded her in death on October 14, 2004. Through the last years, Tommie had many struggles but always gave her God the Glory, saying "God is so good to me!" Having a heart as big as Texas, a great sense of humor, she loved cooking and baking for everyone. Also an avid animal lover, her closest companion was her Black Lab "Shadow', who was always at her side. Survivors include her daughters, Carol Weld and husband David of Houston, Terri Taylor and husband Doug of Ohio, Andrea Hawthorne and husband Tim of Harker Heights,son, Randy Shannon and wife Wanda of Galveston, sisters, Tyra Lewis of Waco, Carolyn Wells of Marlin, Mel Juarez of Waco, Linda Roberts and husband Gary of Lubbock, Georgia Sibert and husband Harold of Tow and Jewel Varderman of Humble; brother, Stephen Cherry and wife Susan of Jefferson, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be David Weld, Doug Taylor, Jason Ivy, Buddy Juarez Steve Price, Tony Dudzinsky, Sonny Juarez and Justin Murry. We wish to give special thanks to her extended families at Prairie Grove Baptist Church, friends who offered so much love and care from Hawthorn Estates and long time Doctors and medical staff of Reltig Family Clinic.
