Tommy Dean Martin, 79, passed away Thursday,
December 31, 2020 after a brief battle with Covid. Tommy was a doting
father and grandfather, and an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, La Vega Football,
Baylor sports and Dallas Cowboys.
Tommy was born July 15, 1941 to Katie and
William Martin. He grew up in Bellmead, TX with his brothers and sisters Lilli,
Ernest Jr, Rachel, Elva Lee, Garland, twin sister Barbara and Jackie. Tommy
went to La Vega schools, and went on to work at Jefferson High 9th grade
center, where he retired early.
Tommy will be remembered most by how much he
loved and adored his girls. He was so proud of them and never missed a thing.
He went to every single sporting event, choir or band concert, and every awards
ceremony. He was always there for his girls.
He was also the most loving Grandpa. One of his
happiest days was the day his first grandson, Christian, was born. He made it
to Dallas in a winter storm to be there for his birth. He couldn't wait to be a
Grandpa! The day Mary came back from her honeymoon, the first thing he said to
her was "When am I getting a grandson?" The grandkids were the
light of his life from the day they were born.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Stephens and
son-in-law Mike, of Mansfield, TX; daughter Barbara Martin of Dallas, TX;
grandsons Christian Gonzalez-Martin and Austin Stephens; and granddaughter
Charley Stephens. He is also survived by his last living sibling, Jackie Martin
of Bellmead, TX.
Tommy will be laid to rest at Rosemound Cemetery
in Waco, TX. A private service for Tommy will be Friday, January 8, 2020. A
celebration of Tommy's life will be planned for this summer where all who knew
him are welcome to attend.
