Wanda Jean Gifford Poston, 71, of Bellmead, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 25 at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom McCollister officiating. Burial will follow at the Poston-Odle Family Cemetery in Valley Mills. Visitation is scheduled 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 24 at the funeral home. Wanda was born August 14, 1939 in Gholson, Texas to Lewis and Mattie Gifford. She attended Gholson and West schools, graduating as Valedictorian of the West Class of 1957. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1988 and pursued a career as a social worker. Her first husband, Boyd Gassaway, preceded her in death in 1964. She married Douglas Vaughn Poston on October 24, 1969. Wanda was a long time member of Timber Crest Baptist Church of Waco, loved to read, work jigsaw puzzlws and was a fan of Baylor basketball. She was a loyal and dedicated wife,mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be greatly missed by those that knew her. Survivors include her husband, Douglas Poston of Bellmead; daughters, Sherrie Poston of Hewitt, Karen Gravitt and husband Paul of China Spring and Barbara Poston of Bellmead; sons, Ronnie Poston and wife, Sherry of Hubbard, Kevin Poston and wife Tracy of Waco; brothers Charlie Gifford of Sacramento, California, Edward Gifford of Friendswood, and Jimmy Gifford of Gholson; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. Special thanks go out to Dr. Robert Anderson and staff at Texas Oncology, Providence Hospice, the staff on One West at Quality Care Nursing Home and the ladies Sunday School class at Timber Crest Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Providence Hospice or Community Cancer Association.
