William Vernon York went to be with his Heavenly Father from his earthly home in Waco, with his wife, Jean, at his side Saturday, October 25, 2008. Funeral service will 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27 at the funeral home. William was born June 3, 1924.on the Vernon Goodall Farm, to parents, Frances Marion York and Bessie Lee (Bridger) York. He was drafted in the Navy in WWII, and served in the Pacific. He participated in the invasion of Leyte, Lingayen Gulf followed by many other happenings. He served on the USS Lindenwald and prepared for the final invasion of Okinawa. He attained the rank of Gunner Mate 3rd class and was awarded 5 bronze stars. He came back to Bosque County and married his sweetheart, Nona Faye Campbell, in 1945. From the union, their son, Gary Ray York was born. Nona Faye passed away in 1951. He then met and married Bertha Boman and together they raised their big family of five boys. All five boys, except for one, followed in York's footsteps and joined the Navy. Bertha passed in 2000, after 40 years together. York then met and married, Jean Souer, and enjoyed eight happy years together. He was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, know as "Uncle Son" to those. Preceding William in death were his parents; his brothers, FM, Jr. Louis and Woodrow "Jack" York; sister, Cynthia Viola; "Jim" Edna "Ed" and Pearl; sons, Earl and Randy Boman; daughters, Dorothy Baker and granddaughter, Dottie Ann. He is survived by his wife, Jean; sons, Gary Ray York and wife Ernestine, Ray Boman and wife Irene; Robert Paul Boman and Edwin Souer and wife Percilla; along with 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and one sister, Nellie Saunders and husband Jack.
