Wilma Hatzfeld Vinson, 93, passed away on July 12, 2014 after a brief illness. A celebration of her life will take place at 2 pm on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Sparks Memorial UMC. Visitation with the family will be an hour before service time at the church. A graveside service for family will be held at 10 am at Waco Memorial Park. She was born in Oswego, Kansas to Edgar and Kathern Hatzfeld. A graduate of Oswego High School, she attended Parsons Junior College receiving an associate degree in Business. After a whirlwind romance, she married Frank Vinson in 1942. After WWII, she moved to Dallas to enable Frank to attend Baylor school of dentistry while she worked for General Electric. In 1952, the couple relocated to Waco where Dr. Vinson would set up his new practice in Bellmead. Over the next 65 years, she became well known in the community where she served in a variety of volunteer activities. She sang in choirs from high school through retirement, including the chancel choir at Sparks Memorial UMC and the Baylor Senior Choir. Her talents included violin and piano, and her children are thankful for her gift of music. Her spontaneous humor and her gift of friendship were hallmarks of her character. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Vinson; a brother Leon Hatzfeld; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Suhren and husband Glen of Garland; her son, Jay Vinson of Dallas: and grandsons David and Alex Suhren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sparks Memorial UMC in Bellmead or the RISE fund at First UMC in Dallas.
