Yvonne Zipperlen, 83, of Riesel, passed triumphantly from this temporal world into Jesus's arms on July 15, 2011 after succumbing to the ravages of Alzheimers. She was greeted in Heaven by Alvin her beloved husband and many wonderful Christian friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Meiers Settlement United Methodist Church in Riesel with Christopher Hull officiating. Burial will be at Meiers Settlement Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 18 at Bellmead Funeral Home. At a young adult in business school in CO. she accepted Jesus Christ into heart and after graduating business school she enrolled in Dallas Bible College where she met her future husband Alvin. Yvonne loved the Word of God and devoted much of her time reading and teaching to children and adults. She had an adorable and extensive pig collection from loved ones and friends around the world. In the 1950's she became involved with a political drive to encourage young black women to vote. In the 70's she was honored at a banquet where she received Life Time Honorary Membership from the National and Texas PTA for her work in racial unity within the Dallas Public School's. She was precinct Chairman for the Republican National Party and campaigned for Ronald Reagan. She remained active in politics until her health would no longer allow it. Grandchildren, gospel music, reading and flowers were her passions. She is survived by sisters Alice Overguaard, Ina Smidt, El Dora Martin, Alberta Buskin, and four brothers Dwight Goolsby, Sam Goolsby, Elvin Goolsby and Vic Goolsby, and two sister-in-laws Ruby Hoffmeyer of Riesel and Annie May Isbel of Valley Mills. Alvin and Yvonne's children are Alvin, Jr. and wife Margaret, Jane, Darrell, Rose and Eric. They have ten grandchildren; Derek, Benjamin, Jessica, Christina, Veronica, Kayla, Nicole, Christopher, Erica and Sarah. Great grandchildren are Jeffery, Leah, Jaya. She is also survived by loving caregiver Cindy Kell of six years and beloved family friend Tomoko Naganuma of Japan. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Providence Hospice who went above and beyond expectations of palliative care, then Dr. Sudan whose faith and gentle care and humor brightened Yvonne's last years and Meiers settlement church who has supported Al and Yvonne for many years and many ways.
